Privacy Policy

Overview
Mindlessly is a Chrome extension that helps you browse more mindfully by setting an intention and using a focus timer before distracting sites. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. The short version: almost everything stays on your device, and the only data we ever receive is an email you choose to give us.
What stays on your device
Stored in Chrome local storage and never sent to us: your tracked-site list, intention text, per-session event log (start/end, site, optional tag, intent-met answer), usage counts used to time the occasional rating prompt, and an anonymous random ID.
What syncs through your Chrome profile
Stored in Chrome sync storage so it follows your own Chrome profile across devices, via Google’s Chrome Sync. We never see or receive this: Pro/trial state and history, a Polar license key (if you bought Pro), the customer email/name Polar returns for display in Settings, rolled-up daily/weekly stats, saved tags, your last custom timer length, and preferences (tags, stopwatch, hide-button, schedule, 12/24-hour display).
Email address — optional, only if you give it
Mindlessly works fully without an email. You can optionally share one in two places, and only then is anything stored on our backend:
- During onboarding — an optional field. If filled, we store it so we can send you a Pro code if you ever uninstall.
- On the off-boarding page — if you uninstall and want a 30-day Pro code, you enter an email, verify it with a 6-digit code, and we email you the code.
It’s stored in a database we run on Vercel + Neon, one record per email. We never sell or share it and delete it on request. The verification code is stored only as a salted hash and expires in 10 minutes. One Pro code per email, enforced at the database level.
Anonymous rating
At most twice (around your 7th and 25th focus session) Mindlessly may invite you to rate it. If you choose to rate, you are taken to the Chrome Web Store review page — Mindlessly does not collect or transmit a numeric score itself. Skipping never affects functionality.
Third-party services
- Polar.sh — sells and licenses Mindlessly Pro. Checkout and card details are handled entirely by Polar. License validation sends only your license key over HTTPS; the response (email, name, plan) is stored in your Chrome sync storage, not ours.
- Vercel / Neon — host the optional email store described above. Only an email, an uninstall reason (if given), extension version, and timestamps are stored. No browsing data.
- Google Chrome Sync— carries your synced preferences and stats across your own devices, governed by Google’s policy.
What we never collect
Your browsing history, the content of pages you visit, passwords, or any sensitive data. Your intentions, session events, and tags never leave your device or your own Chrome profile.
Your rights & control
- Remove the extension to erase all local data.
- Remove a Pro license any time from Settings → Pro.
- Email us to delete any email record we hold.
- Skip any rating prompt with no loss of functionality.
Children’s privacy
Mindlessly is a general productivity tool and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
